2. History Study
Spend 60+ minutes researching the following topic during this time period.
SPAIN & ITS EMPIRE – CONQUISTADORS
1440 – 1588
- Spend at least 60 minutes studying any resource focused on this time period (YouTube, documentary, picture book, magazine, etc.).

As you study, fill out your Time Period Study worksheet.
You must add information about at least one Key Person, one Key Event, and several Interesting Facts. If you want to do more, fill out more that one worksheet.
NOTE: There is NO UEWH reading this week.

- Add the following key dates or figures to your timeline.
- Add ONE additional date that you find during your History Study.
- 1227 – Spanish Inquisition begins
- 1492 – Ferdinand and Isabella conquer Grenada
- 1492 – Treaty of Tordesillas divides world between Portugal and Spain
- 1513 – Vasco Nunez di Balboa discovers the Pacific Ocean
- 1546 – Spanish mines are opened in Mexico and Peru
- 1588 – Spanish Armada sinks in English Channel
4. Writing Assignment
This week you have a creative writing assignment. Please keep your assignment between 1 to 3 pages double-spaced.
Write a short journal entry as if you were either a sailor discovering a new world OR someone from the new world who has just been discovered.
Be sure to use the following as you write:
- Great Adjective
- Strong, Exciting Verbs
- Interesting Adverbs
Use the CHECKLIST after you write to make sure you included everything.
Make sure your paper follows the Written Paper Format.
5. Fiction Reading Assignment
Finish reading The King’s Fifth.
Fill out the Study guide in the Book Discussion section of your binder.
