3. History Study

Spend 60+ minutes researching the following topic during this time period.

RUSSIA & PRUSSIA – Catherine the Great & Frederick the Great

1740-1796

  1. Read Usborne Encyclopedia of World History (UEWH) pgs 316-319.
  2. Spend at least 45 additional minutes studying any resource focused on this time period (YouTube, documentary, picture book, magazine, etc.).

    As you study, fill out your Time Period Study worksheet.

    You must add information about at least one Key Person, one Key Event, and several Interesting Facts. If you want to do more, fill out more than one worksheet.

4. Timeline

  1. Add the following key dates or figures to your timeline.
  2. Add ONE additional date that you find during your History Study.
  • 1740 – Frederick the Great ascends to the Prussian throne
  • 1756-1763 – 7 Years War between France, Austria, Saxony, Sweden, and Russia on one side, and Prussia, Hanover, and Great Britain on the other
  • 1762 – Catherine the Great seizes throne from husband, Peter. Peter abdicates and is later killed.
  • 1783 – Russia annexes Crimea, increasing Russian trade options and control
  • 1791 – Pale of Settlement relocates all Russian Jews to one area of Russia, mostly Ukraine and former Poland

5. Writing Assignment

Create three bubble maps and 3 essay outlines using the silly thesis statements you created last week. Use the Simple Essay Outline handouts you received in class.

NOTE: You do NOT have to fill out the claim/prompt, introduction, or conclusion sections of the handout.

Put your bubble map brainstorm for each outline on the back of your essay outline.
