If you missed class …

2. Prepare Your Scientist Presentation

On November 3, you’ll be doing a 5-minute presentation on a scientist. That’s NEXT WEEK!

If you need to check who you chose, check HERE.

Presentation Guidelines

  • 5 minutes or less
  • Must be engaging/interesting (DON’T BE BORING!)
  • Examples of previous presentations:
    • Short activity
    • Puppet show
    • Short skit
    • Video/animation
    • Playing a game
  • Practice your presentation before you come to class! Make sure it works and is less than 5 minutes.

3. Write a Paragraph about Your Scientist

Write 1 paragraph about your scientist using the format we’ve been practicing in class

Do NOT write a summary of the person’s life. Instead, focus on making a claim and then proving it.

Step 1: Make a claim about the person (based on your research).

Examples:

  • Jim Thorpe was the most well-rounded athlete that ever lived.
  • Eleanor Roosevelt was as comforting to the American people during the Great Depression as her husband.
  • Steve Jobs forever changed the way we use computers.

Step 2: Write a paragraph that supports your claim. Make sure you have a topic sentence, evidence and analysis, and a connection back to the claim. Your paragraph should be between 5-10 sentences long.

Follow the traditional paper format and the handout example you were given in class.
