1. Pick Your Scientist for Your Presentation

On October 28, you’ll be doing a 5-minute presentation on a scientist.

If you haven’t already, choose the scientists you want to do a presentation on HERE.

Only one student per scientist. Please do not erase someone else’s name.

Complete Caught-ya #26, #27, #28, #29 and #30. After you are finished, watch the videos below for your corrections.

3. History Study

Spend 60+ minutes researching the following topic during this time period.

CHINA & JAPAN

QING (MANCHU) DYNASTY

1644 – 1912

EDO JAPAN

1603 – 1868

  1. Read Usborne Encyclopedia of World History (UEWH) pgs 268-271.
  2. Spend at least 45 additional minutes studying any resource focused on this time period (YouTube, documentary, picture book, magazine, etc.).

    As you study, fill out your Time Period Study worksheet.

    You must add information about at least one Key Person, one Key Event, and several Interesting Facts. If you want to do more, fill out more than one worksheet.

4. Timeline

  1. Add the following key dates or figures to your timeline.
  2. Add NO additional dates that you find during your History Study.
  • 1636 – Qing (Manchu) dynasty in China begins
  • 1839 – Opium Wars with British – Chinese lose
  • 1900 – Boxer Rebellion – China tries to kick out all foreigners
  • 1912 – Last Emperor finishes rule in China

  • 1639 – Shogun Lemitsu forbids contact with world outside Edo era Japan
  • 1720 – Ban on Western literature in Japan is cancelled
  • 1868 – Empire restored in Japan

5. Essay Assignment

  1. 5 Paragraph Essay workbook – page 51 & 52 — Fill out the claim, reason, and then write a possible topic sentence for both thesis statements.

NOTE – For the first thesis statement on page 52, you can rewrite a new thesis about why a teenager should NOT drink coffee if you want – but you have to create the entire thesis before doing the rest of the assignment.

6. Reading Assignment

Finish reading Ghost in the Tokaido Inn – pages 147-213.
