1. Inventor Report & Presentation Signup

NOTE: Only one student may sign up for each inventor.

  • Sign up for an inventor above
  • Research your inventor using the Biography Fact-Gathering Worksheet handed out in class
  • Write a biography report using some of the facts you gathered. Try to include an introduction, a thesis, a body paragraph, and a conclusion. (This will be your first time pulling it all together, so it will probably feel hard. That’s okay. Just do your best.)
  • Use the Descriptive Essay Grading Sheet to check your paper. (Handed out in class and also on p. 138 in your workbook.)

Your report will be due next time we come to class – February 27.

  • Use the notes you took in class to brainstorm and structure your essay!
    • Research & fill out brainstorming guide
    • Create a thesis “bucket”
    • Find 3 distinct topics
    • Find an example (or 2) for each topic
    • Write a thesis statement that pulls all three topics together
    • Write your three body paragraphs
    • Write your introduction (thesis is the last sentence)
    • Write your conclusion
  • Use the brainstorming guide handed out in class to guide your research.
  • Use pg. 38-39 if you need help writing an Introduction.
  • Use pg. 50-51 if you need help writing a Conclusion.
  • Use pg. 10 and pg. 110 if you need help writing a Thesis.
  • Use the checklist handed out in class to make sure you have all the pieces.

Alien Letter Home

Pretend you are an alien visiting earth for summer camp or summer vacation. Write a letter home describing your experience (for example, to your friend or your parent). Here are some questions to get you thinking? DO NOT feel like you have to answer all of these questions – these are ONLY brainstorming questions.

  • What do you look like? What is different than humans?
  • How does your body act differently than human bodies on earth?
  • Is there anything on earth that you don’t know the name of or has a different name?
  • What do you see that seems strange or different?
  • What have you liked about earth?
  • What do you wish you could change? What don’t you like?
  • How have you felt while you are away from home?
  • Have you done anything crazy?
  • Has something happened to you that you are dying to tell them about?
  • Who have you met? Why are they memorable?

Presentation Assignment Guidelines

  1. Your presentation MUST be less than five minutes.
  2. Find a creative way to share information about your scientist. Some examples include:
    • A top ten list of cool facts.
    • A diorama
    • A poster of the person’s brain with imaginary divisions of what they think about
    • Objects that represent important things to that scientist
    • A commercial about something important that scientist invented or discovered
    • A wacky true/false test with funny options paired with true options

These are only a few of the creative ideas you could do. As long as we learn a little about the scientist AND it’s less than five minutes, the sky is the limit.

Remember: You also have to write a paragraph about your scientist and turn it in. If you didn’t turn it in last week, please finish and bring it to turn in.
