- 1606 – Dutch explorers reach Australia
- 1642 – Abel Tasman reaches New Zealand
- 1768 – James Cook’s First Voyage to explore the Pacific
- 1770 – James Cook claims Australia for England
- 1779 – Cook is killed in Hawaii
- 1788 – Britain begins sending convicts to Australia
- 1840 – Maori give control of New Zealand to Great Britain
