2. Timeline
Add the following key dates to your timeline — except the first two.
The first two dates happened before your timeline starts. They are important to understand the history of the Incan and Aztec Empire, but you do NOT need to add them to your timeline.
- 1200 – Inca tribe found city of Cuzco
- 1325 – City of Tenochtitlan is founded (later becomes capital of Aztec Empire
- 1428 – Aztec Empire is founded
- 1440 – Montezuma I rules Aztec Empire – Aztec Empire reaches its peak
- 1493 – Incan Empire reaches its peak
- 1521 – Cortes destroys the Aztec Empire
- 1532 – Pizarro destroys the Incan Empire (you added this last week)
3. History Study
Spend 60+ minutes researching the following topic during this time period.
AZTEC & INCA EMPIRES
1200 – 1532
- Spend at least 15 minutes studying in your History Survey text.
- Spend at least 45 additional minutes studying any resource focused on this time period (YouTube, documentary, picture book, magazine, etc.).

3. As you study, fill out your Time Period Study worksheet.
You must add information about at least one Key Person, one Key Event, and several Interesting Facts. If you want to do more, fill out more that one worksheet.
4. Elegant Essay Reading
Read Chapter 1 of The Elegant Essay, pages 1-4.
5. Writing Assignment
This week you have a creative writing assignment. Please keep your assignment between 1 to 3 pages double-spaced.
Write a short journal entry as if you were either a sailor discovering a new land OR a native person living in a land that was just discovered.
Be sure to use the following as you write:
- Strong Verbs
- Interesting Adjectives
- Exciting Adverbs
Use the CHECKLIST after you write to make sure you included everything.
Make sure your paper follows the Written Paper Format.
6. Fiction Reading Assignment
Be sure you have a copy of The King’s Fifth.
We will discuss this book in class IN TWO WEEKS on October 3.
